It was very fitting that the Neepawa Natives had to rally from behind to defeat the Swan Valley Stampeders, as this team has made a habit recently of pulling off last minute miracles. After trailing 2-0 in the first period, Neepawa exploded for five goals in the second and were able to hold on for a 6-3 win. The victory secured eighth place in the standings for the Natives and ensured them their first appearance in the MJHL playoffs since the 2009-2010 season.

Likely the biggest takeaway for the Neepawa Farmers from game one of the Tiger Hills Hockey League eastern final is that the Carberry Plainsmen deserve to be here. Going into the matchup on Thursday, Mar. 2, there had been a few rumblings that Carberry were here simply due to facing a depleted Minnedosa Bombers squad in the previous round. The Plainsmen quickly put that rumour to rest by outskating, outscoring and ultimately, outplaying, Neepawa on the way to a 6-3 win.
