At the March meeting of Rivers and District Chamber of Commerce it was announced that Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon would be in Rivers on Friday, June 9. She is coming to make a presentation at the stationette with Rivers Train Station Restoration Project. It was suggested the Chamber co-ordinate activities to coincide with this prestigious visit, so updates in this regard were heard at the April 26 chamber meeting.

We wish to update you on her progress and thank you for all the support offered her thus far. She surpassed her fundraising goal for the March 4 and 5 trip to Pacific International (competition between Canada, United States and Japan) and the Edmonton International tournament March 10-13. She was both humbled and thankful for the local support.

Rivers Police Service (RPS) responded to 43 calls for service for the month of April, and we also started our annual Use Your Head campaign. This program encourages youth to wear their helmets when biking or scootering. Once again, auxiliary Constable Dallas Scott has done a tremendous job in securing sponsors; we have two bikes (one from Canadian Tire and one from Louis Dreyfus). Old Dutch, McDonald's, Tutti Frutti, Manitoba Public Insurance and Rivers Bigway Foods have donated prizes to give away the last week in June. Upon seeing an elementary school-aged child, officers stop the youth, record their name and enter it into the draw.

The Rivers Banner
It has been six years since husband and wife Kelly Davidson and Cheryl Beilner bought Rivers Bigway Foods. In the years since, they have continually improved and upgraded the store, but never to an extent that was as visible as their most recent project.
