Rotary District Governor Peter Neufeldt  has been a Rotarian for almost 40 years. Based out of the Regina Eastview Rotary Club,Neufeldt addressed the Neepawa Rotary Club noon meeting on Wednesday, August 9. He spoke on the theme of Rotary making a difference focusing on six Rotary themes, namely, humanitarian services, water & sanitation, disease prevention & treatment, maternal health, basic education & literacy.

New boards installed at Yellowhead Arena

Major upgrades are in place at the Yellowhead Arena in Neepawa. Athletica Sport Systems, based out of Waterloo, ON, has been working with the Yellowhead staff on the installation of the new arena boards and seamless glass. Pictured: The arena boards are the new style of flexible board system which provides more give when a player hits them. This variety of boards have been mandated for both the National and American Hockey Leagues. The next work slated for the Yellowhead will be the installation of the new multi-sided centre ice score clock. This season’s work is part of a multi-year upgrade program at the Yellowhead.

Route 10 Collective’s salute to Clapton

The Route 10 Collective presented Eric Clapton Rainbow Concert and Assorted Love Songs on Aug. 10-12 at the Onanole Community Centre. The event was well attended with a variety of artists entertaining the audience. Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert is a live album recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1973. The concerts were organized by Pete Townshend of The Who and marked a comeback by Clapton after two years of inactivity. With fantastic support in the communities, back once again is the Neil Diamond tribute, Diamond Forever. This time there will be two shows, one at the Neepawa Legion on August 25 and the Gladstone Legion on August 26.  Jason Scott, Neil Diamond tributer, is based out of Cranbrooke BC and has been doing these shows for 15 years with the Royal Canadian Legions.

There was a lot on the menu at this year’s Neepawa and Area Settlement Services Newcomers Day-Camp! This project, supported by Healthy Together Now funding, provided local newcomer youth, between the ages of 10 and 15 with opportunities to build their food skills, as well as introduce some of the local recreation opportunities in the Neepawa community. Don Walmsley, director of Neepawa and Area Settlement Services, saw success with a past food skills project, supported by Healthy Together Now, that was targeted at the adult newcomer population this past winter and thought, this would be something to replicate and bring to the newcomer youth in the community!
