The Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) Tigers baseball and fast pitch teams each competed in its respective provincial championship tournament this past weekend. The boys team travelled to Winkler, while the girls squad played in Morden.

During the round robin, the Neepawa Tigers baseball team faced Sturgeon Heights and Dauphin. The Tigers were able to beat Sturgeon Heights by the score of 6-4, but were defeated by Dauphin by a margin of 15-1. The 1-1 record was good enough for NACI to advance into the playoff round, where they faced the PCI Trojans, based out of Portage la Prairie. The Tigers could not overcome the offensive juggernaut that is PCI, and were beaten 19-3. The Trojans would ultimately advance to the final, but were knocked off by the Dauphin Clippers, in a close 3-2 showdown.

For the provincial girls championship, Neepawa played four games during the round robin, ending the campaign with a 1-3 record. The Tigers dominated Leo Remillard, out of Winnipeg 10-0. Against Garden Valley, a school also based out of Winnipeg, the Tigers were edged by a close 7-6 margin. NACI lost another close one, this time to Steinbach Regional 4-3, before closing out the round robin with 4-1 loss to Boissevain. Neepawa’s record was not enough to move on the playoff rounds, where the PCI Saints, of Portage la Prairie would ultimately top Steinbach by a 7-5 score to claim the provincial championship.
