The following is a complete look-back on what transpired in local sports over the weekend . . .

MJHL: Tagoona nets hat trick, helps Blizzard defeat Natives

Roger Tagoona netted a hat trick, helping the OCN Blizzard defeat the Neepawa Natives 4-2 in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action on Saturday night.

Wilson Dumais scored the other tally for the Blizzard, who improved to 25-9-3 on the season.

Riley Pace and Lyndon Soper scored the goals for Neepawa, who dropped to 8-19-4 on the year.

The game, which took place in The Pas, was the lone contest Neepawa played during the weekend.

Blizzard relieve Mollard

The OCN Blizzard made a surprising coaching change on Friday.

The junior 'A' hockey club relieved head coach Jim Mollard of his duties despite helping lead the club to the best record in the league to date.

Clay Debray will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Robertson secures spot in Safeway Championship

Kelly Robertson will be taking part in the Safeway men's provincial curling championship in his hometown in February.

Robertson's team, along with Deloraine's Blair Goethals and his foursome, secured spots at the Safeway regional playdowns over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Brandon's Stacey Fordyce and her team and Liza Park's squad both secured spots for the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which is set for Stonewall next month.

In other curling news, Glenn Howard's Ontario rink defeated Brad Jacobs and his foursome 3-1 in the final of the Canadian Open in Kelowna, B.C.

The tournament is the second men's Grand Slam event of the World Curling Tour season and had a purse of $100,000.

Wheat Kings defeat Warriors twice; fall to Prince Albert

The WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings had a very busy weekend.

The club wound up winning both games of a home-and-home set against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and Saturday night. Tim McGauley netted two goals as Brandon edged Moose Jaw 4-2 on Friday, while on Saturday, Minnedosa's Chad Robinson scored twice, helping the Wheat Kings again beat the Warriors by a score of 4-2.

On Sunday, the Wheat Kings closed out the three-games-in-three nights with a 3-0 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Wheat Kings now sit with a 13-19-2-2 record and are within two points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League weekly update: Chiefs play three games over weekend

The Yellowhead Chiefs played three games over the weekend in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action.

The Chiefs defeated the Kenora Thistles 4-3 on Friday and followed that up with a 5-3 loss on Saturday and a 6-3 win over the Eastman Selects on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 5-0 decision to the Central Plains Capitals on Saturday and on Sunday, rebounded with a convincing 7-0 win over Central Plains.

Lastly, the Southwest Cougars had a successful weekend, winning all three of their games.

On Friday, the Cougars defeated the Winnipeg Wild 5-3, on Saturday, Southwest beat the Eastman Selects 3-2 and on Sunday, the Cougars edged the Interlake Lightning 4-3.

After the weekend's action, the Chiefs and Wheat Kings sit tied atop the West Division with 40 points, while the Cougars sit in fourth place with 30 points.

Westman High School Hockey League: Tigers remain undefeated

The Neepawa Tigers remain undefeated in the Westman High School Hockey League.

The Tigers travelled to Hamiota on Saturday and were able to come away with a 6-1 win over the Huskies.

With the win, the Tigers improved to a perfect 9-0-0 on the year.

The Dauphin Clippers sit in second overall, while the Brandon-based Crocus Plains Plainsmen are in third place.

Farmers destroy Clippers

The Neepawa Farmers won their sixth game of the year in the Tiger Hills Hockey League over the weekend.

The senior hockey club destroyed the Cartwright Clippers 8-2 on Saturday at the Yellowhead Centre.
With the win, the Farmers improved to 6-2-0 on the year.

Idonije grabs three tackles in loss

Brandon product Israel Idonije of the Chicago Bears had three tackles and assisted on a tackle in Sunday's tilt against the division-rival Green Bay Packers in National Football League action.

The Packers wound up winning the game 21-13 and clinched the NFC North Division.

Idonije now has 40 tackles and a five and a half sacks on the year.
