Selkirk beat Neepawa at MJHL Showcase

The Neepawa Natives closed out the Old Dutch/MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg at 1-1 after a disappointing 11-4 defeat to the Selkirk Steelers.

The game started at a very quick pace, with both teams scoring three goals in the first period. Steven Phillips, Kevin Miller and Drake Lindsay all scored for Neepawa.

In the second period, Selkirk started to pull away with another three goals, while the Natives answered back with only a single tally, a powerplay goal from Reigan Buchanan. That made the score 6-4 Steelers after two periods.

Selkirk secured the win in the third with five goals in the first ten minutes of the final frame. Reid Stallard took the loss for Neepawa, stopping 23 of 34 shots he faced. Drake Lindsay and Brian Bouchard lead Neepawa in scoring. Lindsay ended the game with a goal and an assist while Bouchard secured two assists in the loss.

The next game for the Natives will be on Wednesday night in Portage la Prairie, when they face the Terriers at the PCU Centre.
