The Neepawa Tigers high school baseball team has begun preparations for another year on the diamond.

Tigers coach Mike Levandosky says the club, which consists of 18 players in total this year, has already had several practices in the Neepawa Collegiate gym and is anxious to get out on the field as soon as all the snow melts.

The team has several returnees this season, including a bunch of Grade 12 players, such as Garett Rempel, Blair Krutkewich, Shane Levandosky, Braedon Mitchell, Trent Nelson and Brendan Harris. The club will also have the services of McCreary product Reigan Buchanan. The 17-year-old played 50 games for the MJHL's Neepawa Natives this season and is currently going to school in Neepawa.

"There's a good group of Grade 12s that we have that have all played ball since they were young," said Levandosky. "They've all come up together. We should be pretty competitive I hope."

The Tigers season includes the Prairie West High School Baseball League as well, which consists of seven regular season contests and at least one playoff game this year. The Tigers are slated to kick off the Prairie West season on Wednesday, April 30 in Dauphin.

The Tigers will be placed in the North Division this year, which will include Vincent Massey (Brandon), Hamiota, Major Pratt (Russell), Dauphin and Birtle. Meanwhile, the South Division will consist of Virden, Boissevain, Deloraine/Hartney, Crocus Plains, Killarney and Reston.

The Tigers will also have their respective zone championships to take part in as well. The winner of the zones will move on to the provincial high school baseball championship.

The Tigers ended up falling to Minnedosa in the Zone 7 semifinal last year.
