A provincial mixed team came away with a bronze medal at the senior broomball nationals in Calgary recently.

The Manitoba squad, which includes several local players, defeated a Saskatchewan-based club 4-0 in the third place game on Saturday, April 12.

Manitoba ended up with a 4-3 record overall at the event, which began on Wednesday, April 9 and included more than 200 broomball players from all over Canada, competing in three different categories (elite men, elite ladies and mixed).

Wayne Dunning wound up leading the Manitoba squad in scoring with five goals and four assists for nine points, while goaltender Kayla Henton was named the MVP for Manitoba, finishing with two shutouts and a 1.71 goals against average. Dunning, Henton and defenceman Wayne Boxall – who had five points in seven games – ended up being named second team all-Canadian all-stars as well.
