My Fair Lady tells the story of the over-confident Professor Higgins and his experiment that attempts to transform a cockney girl, Eliza, into a proper-speaking lady.

Higgins and his friend Colonel Pickering make great progress with the girl and even take her to the horse races and a grand ball. Nevertheless, they still treat Eliza as a mere experiment and not as a human being. When Eliza runs away, Higgins realizes she is more than just an experiment; indeed he is in love with the girl.

Strathclair Drama Club will be holding open auditions on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a number of roles. Leading roles include Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins. Eliza is a 20-something flower girl who wants to be a “lady.” This is a challenging role requiring strong acting and vocal skills and the ability to speak with an accent. Henry is an upper-class professional bachelor and world-famous language expert who becomes Eliza’s teacher. This role also requires a strong actor and singer with a refined British accent.

There are also a number of principal and supporting roles available for singers. Colonel Pickering is a retired British officer who wagers a bet with Higgins on Eliza’s ability to become a “lady.” He is jovial, caring, aged, but refined. Freddy Eynsford-Hill  is a doting, upper-class young man who becomes smitten with Eliza. Alfred P. Doolittle is Eliza’s father, a vigorous dustman who enjoys his drink. He must possess a thick cockney accent and be a strong singer. Harry and Jamie are drinking mates of Alfred’s and are strong solo singers.

There are also multiple speaking parts available. Professor Higgins’s head housekeeper, Mrs. Pearce, is pragmatic and underappreciated. Mrs. Higgins is Henry’s long-suffering mother who is refined, but empathetic. Mrs. Eynsford-Hill is Freddy’s aristocratic mother, stuffy and privileged. Zoltan Karpathy is a former student of Higgins who fancies himself a speech expert.

My Fair Lady includes several challenging ensembles that will require individuals with choral experience.

There are also numerous small parts to be filled by those who are interested. There are no roles for children under the age of 18, although a select few may be considered for “specialty” roles, dancing or chorus.

All new members to the Drama Club must schedule an audition. Previous chorus participants need only confirm their participation and/or interest in smaller roles via email.  If you would like to register for an audition, confirm chorus participation or ask any questions, please email This email address is being protected from spambots.
