NACI students trick or treat for HOPE

On Halloween, NACI students won’t be trick-or-treating for candy, they’ll be knocking on doors for HOPE. HOPE (Helping Our World Pursue Equality) is a student organization that raises money for charitable causes in Canada and around the world.

Last year, the HOPE group raised $5,000 towards a water sanitation system that has been installed in an all girls school in a village in Kenya.

On Oct. 31, HOPE members and student council members will be collecting money, food and clothes to help those in need.  For “Scare Away Hunger”, they will be collecting non-perishable, non-expired food items that will be delivered to the Salvation Army’s food bank. 

They will also be doing a men’s jeans drive where they will collect clean men’s jeans.  The idea for this came about following a visit to Siloam Mission last May. The group learned that at this time of year, Siloam is very short on men’s jeans, something the clients require to keep warm for the winter. 

They will also be collecting money to help fund a Free the Children project in Kenya aimed at health care and education that the HOPE committee has taken on.

On Halloween, anyone wishing to donate should have their items ready at the door. The students will go around to homes in Neepawa and will identify themselves as working towards the “Scare Away Hunger” project.

On Oct. 30, 53 HOPE members will attend We Day in Winnipeg.
