Provincial senior curling championships underway; Scotties update

The provincial men's curling championships got underway on Thursday in Killarney.

 

Defending champion Kelly Robertson and his rink won their first game, defeating Brandon's Shaun Taylor's squad 7-1.

Robertson, from Neepawa, is the No. 1 seed at the event, followed by Bob Sigurdson's West Kildonan rink. Brian Fowler's Brandon rink is seeded third, while Rob Atkins of East St. Paul and Murray Woodward's rink of St. Adolphe round out the top five seeds respectively.

Meanwhile, Brandon's Lois Fowler has won her first two games at the senior women's event in Souris.

No. 1 seed Laurie Deprez and her rink from Stonewall are currently 3-0.

Scotties update: Jones remains undefeated

Manitoba's Jennifer Jones remains undefeated (8-0) at the Canadian women's curling championship in Kingston, Ont. and currently sits all alone in first place the standings. 

Jones defeated Ontario's Rachel Homan 9-7 Thursday morning in a battle of undefeated teams.
