Durston enters Neepawa mayoral race

On Jan. 3, former two-term Neepawa mayor Bob Durston announced he will be running for mayor in the Feb. 28 Town of Neepawa by-election.  Durston is the third candidate to announce that he will be running for the seat which became available after the resignation of Ron Forsman.

Natives win after lengthy break

After a 10-day Christmas break, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Neepawa Natives were back in action against the Portage Terriers on Saturday night, defeating the Portage Terriers 5-4 in a shootout.

Behind by a score of 4-2 after two periods of play, the Natives were able to score two unanswered tallies in the third, tying the game. Cody Hoy -- who scored to tie the game late in the third -- and Danil Kalashnikov netted goals in the shootout, helping the Natives improve to 8-29-2.

Derrick Brooks scored two goals and had an assist for Neepawa, while Dylan Dock scored the other goal for the Natives.

Neepawa Figure Skating Club holds Christmas Carnival

The Neepawa Figure Skating Club held its first annual Christmas Carnival at the Yellowhead on Dec.11.

All the performers were dressed in Christmas colors and skated to Christmas music to help everyone get into the spirit.

RCMP arrests break and enter suspect

RCMP have arrested Douglas Daciuk on Thursday, who was believed to have been part of a break and enter with three others in Minnedosa on Monday.

On Dec. 19, at 4:45 am, Minnedosa and Neepawa RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter in progress at the Valley Motor Lodge in Minnedosa. Nothing was stolen from the premise.
 
Police have made three other arrests in connection to this incident. Charged with break and enter are the following: Jerry George Allan Rule, 21, of Yorkton, David John Donald Switzer, 21, of Shoal Lake and Darwin Scott Brazeau, 20, of Brandon.

At their Dec. 20 council meeting, Neepawa's town council wrapped up a few housekeeping issues before the new year and set a date for the byelection to replace former mayor Ron Forsman.

RCMP seize counterfeit products

On Wednesday, members of the RCMP Federal Enforcement Section executed a search warrant at a store located at the Brandon Shoppers Mall located in Brandon. RCMP seized in excess of $10,000 worth of counterfeit items, including hoodies, t-shirts, hats and belts.

Neepawa vet board reverses decision

At their most recent meeting, the Neepawa and District Vet Board revoked the previous resolution of Oct. 19, 2011 and passed a new one to re-sign Dr. Fawcett Taylor to a Form 2 Agreement with the Letter of Agreement that he will have a second vet by Oct. 1, 2012.

A board was elected as follows: chairman  Gerond Davidson (RM Langford), vice chair Barry Kohinski (RM Rosedale), secretary treasurer Tanya Dusessoy, member Murray Parrott (Town of Neepawa), member Ted Wilson (RM of Glenella), member Shawn Buchanan (RM of McCreary) and member Richard Funk (RM of Lansdowne).
