A 37-year-old man, his sons, ages nine and 10 and another nine-year-old boy were killed on Sunday in a plane crash near the town of Waskada.

The RCMP have yet to identify the victims, however residents have said that the pilot's name was Darren Spence. His sons names were Gage and Logan. The other boy was Dawson Pentecost, who was a family friend.

The aircraft left from a private airfield at approximately 1 p.m. and was reported overdue two hours later.

The crashed aircraft was spotted at around 7 p.m. Sunday night approximately a kilometre from where it had taken off and about 10 kilometres north of the southwestern Manitoba community.

The crash scene is reported to be in an open field.

The Cessna 201 Centurion -- the aircraft that crashed -- is a six-seat, single-engine plane.

Mental health counsellors were at the Waskada School throughout the day on Monday helping all who attend come to grips with the three children's lives that were lost.
