Congratulations to the Sunday school children who received their certificates at the windup on June 14. We would like to publicly thank the dedicated leaders, Shelley Foster and Becky Stewart, for another fun-filled year of Sunday school. Classes will resume on Sept. 13 followed by a Sundae Sunday fundraising ice cream party.

Volunteers from Rivers United Church will be operating our food booth at Rivers fair on Wednesday, July 8. Please stop by for delicious sandwiches and pie.

We extend sincere congratulations to Cardale United Church on their recent 100th anniversary; a few members of our congregation attended to celebrate with them.

While we take a vacation from regular services in July, we encourage our congregational members to support other local churches by attending their services. Regular services will resume on Aug. 2 at 11 a.m.; if your church is on holidays during August, we welcome you to join us for worship.

Remember to register your children for vacation Bible camp; this year’s theme is Everest and camp will run Aug. 17-21. Watch around town for posters with contact names and numbers.

Plans are being made for several major fundraisers in the fall. A pie sale will take place in conjunction with our September thrift sale. Our fall supper is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18. In November, we will be hosting an open trivia night, so get your teams of eight together and study up!

Donations to the Memorial Fund can be made at any time. Perhaps you would like to remember the anniversary of the loss of a loved one in this way. Pamphlets to assist with this will be placed in the pews in fall.

Rev. Glenna Beauchamp recently attended the annual Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario United Church conference at University of Manitoba. One message from conference she passed on to us is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: When you were born you were crying and everyone else was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone else is crying.
