The Salvation Army of Neepawa is saying thanks to its many volunteers for their commitment to the cause. The local chapter of the international charitable organization took some time on Thursday, June 4, to host a volunteer appreciation day.

Salvation Army manager Amanda Naughton-Gale said it was very important to single out those who provide so much help in moving the organization forward.

“In this type of business, we can not do what we do without the volunteers,” said Naughton-Gale. “Volunteers really are the core of what the Salvation Army is in this community. They are the heartbeat that gets things done and this was an opportunity for us to show a little appreciation. It was very important for us to do that.”

Naughton-Gale also noted that the generosity of the community also ensures the Salvation Army continues to meet the needs of the region.

“This year, we realized over a $100,000 in sales at the thrift store. That’s a number we have never done before. We couldn’t do that without the type of donations that are coming in. The gently used articles. Some really wonderful, brand name stuff. Things we can earn a little extra money on and we thank [the community] for the donations because without them, we’d have nothing to sell. We are sometimes a little overwhelmed but we are overwhelmed with generosity and that’s a good problem to have.”
