Brandon University piano faculty members Kyung and Michael Kim announced recently the second annual Mayfest concert will take place in Neepawa on Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church.

Tickets will be available at the door, or can be reserved in advance at the Viscount Cultural Centre for the Arts, and are $15 for adults or $10 for students and seniors.

Mayfest will showcase a variety of outstanding musical talent drawn from Neepawa, the Westman region and abroad, including the return of cellist Simon Fryer, violinist Kerry DuWors, violist Greg Hay, clarinetist Catherine Wood, bassist Crystal Tait, pianists Kyung Kim and Michael Kim, the Choraliers under the direction of Carolyn Durston, and Sangmyoung Kim conducting the Neepawa community choir with pianist Sunhwa Her.  There will also be a pre-concert featuring talented, emerging young Manitoban artists beginning at 6:45 pm.

Entitled “Chamber Music Kaleidoscope – Joyful Noise!” this program will feature selections and excerpts from some the greatest chamber masterpieces ever written, including various solos, duets, trios, and Franz Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet.

“Michael and I are most grateful to Knox Presbyterian Church and Pastor Jeanie Lee, Rrain Prior at the Viscount Cultural Centre for the Arts,  and the residents of Neepawa for their generous assistance and willingness to host this festival,” says co-artistic director Kyung Kim.

“The historic beauty and rich acoustic qualities of the Knox Presbyterian Church, in combination with cultural vitality and richness that the city of Neepawa offers its residents and visitors, makes this the ideal venue and location for a music festival of this stature.  We were deeply touched by the support we received from our audiences last year, and are very much looking forward to our return this year.”
