On Dec. 10, Neepawa voters elected Sheri Grant to fill the vacant council seat.

Grant and Murray Parrott were the two candidates that ran in the Neepawa byelection held to fill the seat formerly held by Monty Simon.

A little less than 17 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot:  302 residents voted for Grant while 219 residents voted for Parrott.  This is Grant’s first time on council.  The swearing-in ceremony was scheduled to take place Dec. 12 at the Town of Neepawa office.

“I'm really excited,” said Grant, following the election. “I really hope to get the point across to everyone that this is their community. We are elected by them to work for them. Citizens need to let those they elect know what they expect. Just through the campaign process, I have had many people discuss issues that they feel need addressing, so that is a good start. I am eager to roll up my sleeves and make a contribution.”

The next general municipal election will take place Oct 22, 2014.
