Press Release

Manitoba’s 20th annual Direct Farm Marketing conference is taking place March 6 and 7 at the John R. Brodie Science Centre (Brandon University) in Brandon.

Farmers who attend this conference will have the opportunity to learn about food production and processing, fruit and vegetable production, pricing and human resources in this business. New this year is a component on grass-fed beef that will be sure to provide valuable information for beef herds.

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Charlie Touchette, executive director for North American Farmers Direct Marketing Association (NAFDMA).  Charlie will walk through the evolution of the industry from pioneering to innovating to managing and will look at how changes have impacted strategies on the farm level.

Direct farm marketing is an important component to the agriculture industry in Manitoba. Connections between the producer/processor and the consumer are desired and direct farm marketing satisfies this desire.

“We are excited to be bringing such a diverse group of speakers from producers to industry leaders back to Brandon, where it started 20 years ago,” says Waldo Thiessen of Prairie Fruit Growers Association. “We believe there is something for everyone at this year’s annual conference.”

An early bird registration fee (before Feb. 3) is slightly cheaper than the full conference registration cost and student fees are available as well. More information about the conference and registration is available by calling 204-821-5322 or online at www.directfarmmarketing.com.
