On Dec. 3, the Neepawa-based # 9 Squadron of the Air Cadets received a pair of awards from Air Cadet League of Canada (Manitoba) Squadron Liaison Bill Zuk. F/Sgt. B J Rossnagel was recognized as the highest scoring cadet in the 2015 Basic Leadership Course.

Rivers curling teams to compete in provincials

Golden Gals district playdowns were held in Shoal Lake Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Six teams were entered, three of which are going to the provincial bonspiel in Steinbach in Feb. 4-7. Going undefeated was the Rivers rink skipped by Maxine Veitch, and with one loss each coming out on the B-side, Lynda Draper and Marlene Allan also qualified. Veitch’s Rivers rink of Donna Falkevitch, Donna Morken and Darlene Gourlay, won three games to come out undefeated on the A-side of the draw.

On Nov. 14 the small parish of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Rivers and their pastor Father Phillip Malayil welcomed the archbishop of the diocese of Winnipeg, Richard Gagnon. Archbishop Gagnon is the seventh archbishop of the diocese of Winnipeg and was appointed by Pope Francis in October 2013.
