The Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) Tigers were unable to keep pace with the Vincent Massey Vikings, falling to the defending Westman High School Hockey League Champions 8-1.

The game, played on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Enns Brothers Arena in Brandon, would see Vincent  Massey jump out to a commanding lead early in the evening, as they scored three goals in the opening period.

Neepawa was able to notch a goal in the second period, with Brennan Wiebe notching his first of the season for the Tigers. Cole Krutkewich and Ben Rainka assisted on the effort. Vincent Massey added a single of its own in the second to keep its three goal cushion after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, the Vikings were able to take over, with four additional goals and ended the evening with a comfortable 8-1 win.

The scoring was done by committee by the Vincent Massey Vikings, as eight different players were able to add to their regular season stat sheets.

With the defeat, Neepawa’s regular season record has fallen to 1-5. Meanwhile, Vincent Massey improved its record to 5-2 and jumped into a first place tie with the Dauphin Clippers and the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders. Both those teams however, have one game in hand on the defending champs.

As for the Tigers, they have the next week off, as their next game is not until Thursday, Dec. 17, when they travel back to Brandon, to play the Crocus Plains Plainsmen.

The next home game for Neepawa will be on the following day on Friday, Dec. 18, when they will host the Dauphin Clippers. That matchup will begin at 1:00 pm at the Yellowhead Centre.
