NACI hosts 'Attack On The Track'

Athletes from more than 20 schools participated in a track meet in Neepawa on Wednesday. 

Neepawa Collegiate grounds played host to the "Attack On The Track" which saw numerous athletes from the host school come away with top three finishes. 

Beginning with junior varsity girls results, Emily Dobson ended up coming away with a first place finish in the 200 metre event with a time of 28.29. Taylor Allen meanwhile ended up in third place with a time of 29.98.

In the long jump, Aleigha Bell finished in second place with a total distance jump of 4.16 metres; while in the shot put (four kilogram) event, Dani Hanke ended up in third with a throw of 7.94 metres.

Varsity girls results saw Brooke deKoning finish in third in the 200 metre with a time of 30.16; while in the 80 metre hurdles, deKoning ended up in third place once again with a time of 14.10. In the girls long jump , Amy Todoruk finished in first place with a time of 4.43 metres.

Turning to junior varsity boys results, the Neepawa 4x100 metre relay team finished in third with a time of 52.30; while in the discus throw (1.5 kilogram), Jessy Doerksen ended up in second with a throw of 27.30 metres. 

In varsity boys action, Wyatt Salmon came away with a third place finish in the 200 metre with a time of 24.10; while in the 800 metre, Daniel Heschuk finished in second place with a time of 2:18.12. Logan Young finished in second place in the 1500 metre with a time of 4:35.85, while Daniel Heschuk ended up in third with a time of 4:37.52. Young and Heschuk were back at it in the 3000 metre, finishing first and second respectively with times of  9:41.00 and 9:42.00.  

Other varsity boys results saw the Neepawa 4x100 metre relay team finish in first place with a time of 47.33; while Cody Pasowisty finished in second place in the shot put (five kilogram) with a throw of 11.27 metres. Pasowisty also ended up in second place in the discus throw (1.5 kilogram) event with a throw of 32.43 metres. 

Lastly, Bryson Kaye and Cole Tardiff wound up finishing one-two in the high jump with jumps of 1.80 metres and 1.75 metres respectively. 

"I was really happy with our athletes' performances," said Neepawa track coach Amy Spring. "Our students put together some great results and showed improvement, which is what we are aiming for at this point in the season.

"This was our second meet this season and, with zones right around the corner, I thought it was a great chance for the athletes to get extra practice in against competition before we set our sights on the zone competition and qualification to provincials," continued Spring.

Kurt Allan is the other coach of the Neepawa track team this year.
