Manitoba residents take part in Boston Marathon

The 118th annual Boston Marathon took place on Monday and there were more than 50 runners from Manitoba who took part.

Among the runners at the event included Deanna Peyachew of Brandon, who ran the course in a time of three hours, 29 minutes and 31 seconds.

Other runners included Robert N. Antell of Stonewall; Michelle Couture of Gimli and Stephanie Gerbrand of Steinbach. The rest of the runners were from Winnipeg and surrounding area.

Nearly 36,000 runners took part in the event, which saw increased security after two bombs went off at the marathon last year which killed three people and wounded more than 260.

Meb Keflezighi, 38, an American, wound up winning the men's division with a time of two hours, eight minutes and 37 seconds.
